Where do hybrid applications work?
At the moment, Hybrid TV works in the terrestrial network and in the free channels that can be viewed through Telia Cable TV, Elisa Cable TV on MTV and Yle channels and DNA Cable TV on MTV channels.
Using Hybrid TV requires a television that is compliant with the HbbTV standard. This page includes information on the televisions of various manufacturers that support the HbbTV standard. At the moment, there are mainly two different versions on the market: HbbTV 1.0 and HbbTV 1.5. The HbbTV version 2.0 has been published, and device manufacturers are gradually taking it into use.
HbbTV 1.0 devices only provide an extended programme guide through the Hybrid TV menu.
HbbTV 1.5 and newer devices can use the online video services of various channels and other complementary services, such as Yle Areena, mtv-service, Ruutu and the Finnish ice hockey league results service.
What TV equipment is required to watch Yle Areena and the Nelonen Ruutu application?
Viewing the online broadcasts of Yle Areena and Nelonen Ruutu requires a fairly new smart tv that is connected to a broadband network and that supports the HbbTV version 1.5. Services can be launched by pressing the red button when viewing the service provider’s channels. Hybrid TV services can currently be used with all smart televisions being sold in Finland and with some television models that were sold in 2013 and 2014.
