Press Release
Digita Oy and AlfaTV
5.12.2018

As
of 1 December 2018, AlfaTV has extended its total broadcast time by six hours.
AlfaTV will now be broadcasting nationally from 12 noon to 11 pm in Digita’s
terrestrial television network.  It is
included in multiplex A and can be viewed free of charge on channel 15. The
channel covers 99.96 per cent of Finland’s population.

AlfaTV
is a public interest channel, and launched daily news broadcasts on 26 November
2018. News programmes are broadcast at 5:55 pm, 8:00 pm and 10:55
pm. Public interest channels are required to provide hearing impairment
and subtitle services, and these will also be launched during 2018.

Over
the last few years, AlfaTV has made considerable investments in its programme
content. “In the run up to Christmas, we’ll be showing our Höppänätonttu advent calendar every day. Our Christmas programming
also includes festive Christmas concerts. In the spring, the channel will be
launching a wellbeing series (H.E.T.K.I)
and a reality show (Elinvoimaiset).
And sports fans can look forward to Lämäri
– a fresh, new magazine show that will tell you everything you need to know
about ice hockey,” says Jarmo
Kalliola
, Business Development Director at AlfaTV. For the
last two years, AlfaTV has also televised the Tangomarkinnat tango festival,
and cooperation with this Seinäjoki event will continue.

“We’re
very pleased that, thanks to AlfaTV’s extended broadcasting hours, we’ll be
able to offer Digita’s terrestrial television customers even more top-quality
content and news broadcasts all across Finland,” says Teppo Ahonen, Director, Video Platform Solutions at Digita.

AlfaTV’s
content is also available in the Permanto video archive (permanto.fi), which
was launched in spring 2017. Permanto is also available in Digita’s terrestrial
television network and in Telia’s cable television network via the hybrid TV
service. You can also watch AlfaTV via satellite (on Canal Digital’s channel
108) and on cable television. Since its launch in 2013, the channel has been
steadily increasing its audience. AlfaTV reached over 8 million viewers in
November, and visits to the channel increased by about 10% per month during
autumn 2018.

Launched in December 2013, AlfaTV is a commercial television channel providing a wide range of
programmes for the whole family. AlfaTV broadcasts news, sports, movies,
entertainment, cultural, current affairs, documentary and thematic programmes,
as well as Christian programmes in general.
