The City of Jyväskylä and the technology company Digita Oy have signed a framework agreement on utilising the city’s service properties for the development of future mobile networks

“With the digitalisation development of our society, it is essential for the City of Jyväskylä to ensure mobile connections in accordance with public interest in the city. However, this must be done while ensuring the safety of properties and their users”, says Property Development Manager Mikko Lepo from the City of Jyväskylä. “At the same time, we want to develop a smooth and responsible operating model, which is more important to us than increasing rental income”, Lepo continues. “Naturally we want to, for example, reduce the electricity costs of properties by separating the electrification of antennas and base stations from the electricity measurement of our properties.”

“Assessing and ensuring the suitability of the roofs and structures of equipment facilities and inspecting the actual telecom installations are not core tasks of the city, which is why we chose Digita as an expert for this task”, Lepo continues.

“We are very pleased with the cooperation that is starting with the City of Jyväskylä, whereby Digita will also lease Jyväskylä’s properties to mobile operators for base station use. In practice, this means that Digita will enter into an agreement with mobile operators and is responsible for all leasing and contract management related to telecom operations going forward. This will allow us to serve our operator customers more comprehensively and help develop mobile networks in Finland in this regard, now also in the Jyväskylä region”, says Digita’s Chief Operating Officer Markus Ala-Hautala.
