DNA Plc has agreed to the sale of the pay TV business operations of its terrestrial TV network to Digita Oy. Under the agreement, the terrestrial TV network’s pay TV business operations, and with that DNA’s terrestrial network’s pay television customers, will transfer to Digita on 1 January 2020. Digita’s goal is to develop and expand the terrestrial TV network’s pay TV services.

  • Of key importance to Digita is the continued development and competitive growth of terrestrial television business operations. “We have excellent prerequisites to operate also pay TV business in our terrestrial TV network,” says Digita’s CEO (acting) Markus Ala-Hautala.
  • Our intention is to expand the current coverage area of pay TV and offer even more TV viewers the possibility to order payable content. In addition, we are planning already to introduce the familiar hybrid TV services from freely viewable channels as part of the pay TV offering. Also, the launch of numerous commercial models for content providers is being developed,” continues Ala-Hautala.
  • “Our cooperation work with DNA will continue also in the future. Digita’s offering of pay TV services will be sold through DNA’s wide sales networks,” adds Ala-Hautala.

In its nationwide terrestrial TV network in the UHF frequency, Digita has six network operator licences until 10 January 2027. Approximately half of all Finns watch television through Digita’s terrestrial TV network.

The transaction still requires the approval of the competition authority, which is expected in the autumn 2019. The parties have not published the transaction price.
