Published: 30.9.2020
Expert in geographic information, Esri Finland Oy, and digital infrastructure and service provider, Digita Oy, combine their expertise in IoT solutions for water supply and power distribution services. Digita offers a LoRaWAN-based IoT network that covers the whole country and enables comprehensive and cost-effective data collection from infrastructure. By using Esri’s geographic information solutions, the data collected by Digita’s IoT network can be made part of the customer’s operational activities.
Digita and Esri’s complementary technology offerings create a more agile way than ever of collecting and analysing information from the companies’ different functions. Cost-effective data collection supported by the geographic information system’s analytics capabilities that turn the data from the sensor network into business information create an entirely new basis for decision making.
“Digita already has dozens of water supply and power distribution customers throughout Finland. Digita’s LoRaWAN network enables the cost-effective and easy collection of data from geographically widespread basic infrastructure,” says Ari Kuukka, Director of IoT Services at Digita. Digita’s IoT network covers 99 per cent of Finland and offers indoor coverage for 96 per cent of the population.
“Our customers appreciate LoRa network technology’s low power consumption, long battery life and good reception, even in challenging conditions. Everyone who has adopted the IoT network shares a desire to collect more data than they were previously able to and, most importantly, to do so in real time. The use of this data makes better service and greater cost savings possible,” Kuukka says, summing up the benefits of the IoT.
“In out experience, success for network operators is accelerated by the comprehensive real-time situational picture provided by the network’s features. By combining the data from Digita’s IoT network with our solutions, the customer gets reliable real-time information that they can trust when making business decisions,” summarises Esri Finland’s Managing Director Laura Valojärvi.
“The goal of our cooperation with Digita is to offer a solution, particularly for water supply and power distribution companies, that allows for operations to be developed and governed. With our help, companies can find tangible solutions to improve the reliability and service level of their networks. Our solutions allow companies to save money by enabling them to allocate network construction, maintenance and repair work in real time and to work in a resource-efficient way,” says Esri Finland’s Chief Technology Officer Ilkka Suojanen, discussing the benefits of cooperation.
