[Helsinki] 13, February, 2023 – Sanoma Media Finland begins broadcasting the channel Nelonen in HD nationwide with a coverage of 99.96 per cent over Digita’s terrestrial television network on channel 24 on Monday 13 February 2023. The programming of the Nelonen HD channel will be identical to that of the channel Nelonen, but the new channel will provide better picture quality. The Hybrid TV services available on Nelonen will naturally also be available on Nelonen HD.
“It is time to improve the experience for audiences watching on the terrestrial television network. We want to offer Finnish TV audiences the best possible viewing experience by bringing Nelonen to the terrestrial television network in HD”, says Nelonen Media’s Director of Media Distribution and Technology Matti Lampinen.
“We are extremely pleased to be able to provide the most important channels on terrestrial TV in high definition. The TV sector is currently in the process of determining a more detailed timeframe for the HD transition. At the moment, we estimate that the transition away from standard-definition broadcasts to exclusively HD broadcasting could happen through 2024 and 2025”, says Digita’s Television Services Vice President Teppo Ahonen.
Antenna TV offers audiences more than 20 free television channels. It is important to secure the continuity and level of service of the terrestrial television network in Finland. The ongoing HD and smart TV transitions enhance the competitiveness of Antenna TV, improve frequency usage and save energy. In addition, the HD transition gives households a wider selection of high-quality TV broadcasts to choose from.
To view HD broadcasts, audiences need a DVB-T2 receiver
To watch channels broadcast in high definition, you need an Antenna Ready HD receiver or a receiver equipped with a DVB-T2 tuner. You can view a list of Antenna-Ready-HD-tested devices at www.testatutlaitteet.fi (in Finnish).
Most receivers automatically search for new channels, but some televisions or set-top boxes may require retuning or a reset to factory presets. Instructions on how to search for new channels can be found on Digita’s website and in your device’s user manual. Digita Info is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at +358 (0)20 411 7676 or info@digita.fi.
