In March 2017, Sanoma Media Finland Oy and Digita Oy agreed on the distribution of the Nelonen Media TV channels in Digita’s terrestrial television network from 2017 onwards. In November 2017, the companies expanded their cooperation with the launch of the high-definition channel Nelonen HD in Digita’s UHF network on 1 November 2017. At the same time, it was also agreed to extend the offering of Nelonen Ruutu content for hybrid television. In addition, the companies have agreed on cooperation in the development of marketing.

In the hybrid TV service, viewers can, for instance, rewind shows and
enjoy the extensive Nelonen Ruutu content through an easy-to-use interface.

“It is excellent that Sanoma, for its part, already provides viewers
with high-definition content and hybrid services. The aim is to encourage
consumers to shop for new TVs in order to ensure that households have
up-to-date TV technology in time for the transition to HD in 2020,” says Markus Ala-Hautala, COO of Digita. “At
the same time, we are delighted that Sanoma extends its content offering for
the increasingly popular hybrid TV,” Ala-Hautala adds. Nelonen Media launched
its Ruutu service in Digita’s hybrid television as early as summer 2015.

“Sanoma wants to take part in enabling the smooth implementation of the
next technological transition in television by offering its Nelonen HD channel
to every household in Finland via Digita’s terrestrial television network. We
also want to enrich the TV viewing experience by both adding hybrid services to
programme content as well as expanding the hybrid TV offering of the Ruutu
service. It is also our goal to bring web content to living rooms and TV
screens at the touch of a button,” explains CTO Matti Lampinen from Nelonen Media.

Nelonen HD broadcasts Nelonen content in high definition and is viewable
on the terrestrial network on channel 24 without additional charges.  The
channel is currently available to 85% of the Finnish population, but the
agreement includes the option of future expansion of the coverage area. The
channel’s up-to-date coverage area can be checked at www.digita.fi/karttapalvelu.

Nelonen HD is broadcast with DVB-T2 technology, and viewing the channel
requires a T2 standard compatible receiver. The reception of channels on
Digita’s terrestrial television network still takes place with the currently
functional UHF reception antennas and systems.
