Seinäjoen Vesi uses Digita’s LoRaWAN network to digitalise its services

Seinäjoen Vesi and Digita have concluded a five-year agreement on the digitalisation of the remote reading of water meters with the help of Digita’s IoT network that is based on the LoRaWAN technology. With the agreement, water meters will be replaced with new, remote-readable meters at the rate of 2,000 meters per year.
Seinäjoen Vesi, a business unit of Seinäjoen Energia Oy, manages wastewater disposal and treatment for 63,000 customers and industrial operators. The digitalisation of water meters began with a pilot phase in early 2019. The LoRaWAN coverage in the area is wide and it has been extended to new sites in accordance with the wishes of Seinäjoen Vesi.
“The deployment of remote-readable water meters is one of our priority projects for the upcoming years, and Digita offered a ready-made package for the deployment of remote meters outside our Group’s own electrical network area. This cooperation enables us to proceed with this important project,” says Network Manager Jari Mäntylä from Seinäjoen Vesi.
The digitalisation of the remote reading of water meters enables the monitoring of consumption data and real-time invoicing, which is visible to the end users as better customer service. “We find it important that the benefits of our service are visible to end customers as well,” says Digita’s Mona Miettinen, Sales Manager, IoT Services.
