The City of Hamina and technology company Digita have made an agreement concerning the use of the city’s properties in the development of mobile networks. This allows for improved mobile connections for local residents.

The functionality of services enabled by digitalisation increases the demand placed on data connections. A comprehensive network of base stations is required to ensure sufficient quality and capacity of mobile network connections. The City of Hamina and Digita have launched a collaboration in which properties owned by the city can be used as base station locations.

“The digitalisation of society is progressing at a fast pace, and we want to ensure the city and its residents have good data connections. Many services, including some of our own, rely on mobile networks, and increasing amounts of data is collected digitally from the properties themselves. From the perspective of a small municipality, it is ideal for us to outsource management of rooftop installations to a skilled third party and coordinate services from one place,” says the City of Hamina’s Property Manager Sami Kahila.

“We are extremely pleased with the collaboration being launched with the City of Hamina, which allows us to expand our offering of high-quality digital infrastructure for mobile operators and other parties building mobile networks in the Hamina region. In practice, this means that Digita will enter into agreements with operators and is responsible for all leasing and contract management related to telecom operations going forward”, Digita’s Chief Operating Officer Markus Ala-Hautala says.
