Yle’s HD channels are now available in some parts of Lapland through Digita’s terrestrial television network

Digita has begun building an HD network in northern Finland. The first HD transmitter in the Lapland area was powered on in Pyhätunturi on 7 April 2020. In addition, HD transmitters have been started at the Karigasniemi, Kilpisjärvi, Kuttanen and Utsjoki main broadcasting stations. The Rovaniemi and Posio transmitters will be started during week 17.
The remaining main transmitters in the Lapland area will be started in April, while the supplementary transmitters will be started in May. The status of the transmitters will be updated at www.digita.fi/HD2020. Yle’s HD channels Yle TV1 HD, Yle TV2 HD, Yle Teema & Fem HD will be available all across Finland by 1 June 2020. At this point, regional news broadcasts will also enter the HD era in the terrestrial network.
“Yle’s goal is to make HD broadcasts available to all households in Finland. The expansion of HD coverage through the terrestrial network to the northernmost parts of Finland is a significant step for us on this path”, Janne Yli-Äyhö, Yle’s CTO/CIO, explains.
“The launch of high-definition broadcasts in northern Finland is a historic event similar to the launch of digital television broadcasts in the early 2000s. We pride ourselves in providing high-quality TV broadcasting services throughout the country, so making it possible for Yle to broadcast its HD channels nationwide is important to us,” Vesa Tykkyläinen, CEO of Digita, says.
To see the channels included in the new multiplex B, viewers must scan for channels on their TV.
How to view Yle’s HD channels on Digita’s terrestrial network at the latest on 1 June 2020
Yle’s channels will be available in the UHF network’s multiplex B on channels 21, 22 and 25. Additional information on the coverage is available on Digita website at www.digita.fi/HD2020.
A UHF antenna is sufficient for receiving the broadcasts, and you will also need an HD receiver to view high definition broadcasts. These include a television equipped with a T2 tuner or a T2 digital set-top box.
If you cannot view the channels automatically after the transition, the receiver may require a new channel search or that factory settings are restored. In buildings that have a master antenna, the antenna system may need to be adjusted in order to receive Yle’s HD channels.
