Following a rapid construction phase, Yle’s HD channels will be available throughout Finland on Digita’s terrestrial television network on 1 June 2020. Yle TV1 HD will start broadcasting regional news at the same time.

According to data collected by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, 67% of households connected to the terrestrial television network were HD ready in February 2020. A UHF antenna is sufficient for receiving the broadcasts, and viewers will also need an Antenna Ready HD receiver, a television or a set-top box to view high definition broadcasts.

Yle’s high definition channels will be available in the UHF network’s multiplex B on channels 21, 22 and 25. Additional information on the terrestrial network overage is available on Digita website at www.digita.fi/HD2020. The page also has a schedule for the completion of supplementary transmitters. Antenna system changes may be required in buildings with master antennas

Normally no changes to the antenna system are needed in detached houses to receive Yle’s HD channels. If the antenna system of a detached house is working and the television is an Antenna Ready HD receiver, all you have to do is perform a channel search in your television set after the transmitters for the area have been switched on.

In buildings that have a master antenna, the antenna system may need to be adjusted in order to receive Yle’s HD channels. We recommend that property managers of buildings with a master antenna contact the local antenna contractor so that any required changes or replacements regarding the antenna system can be carried out.
