IoT services – imagination is the only limit
Our smart solutions enable the smart cities of the future. Maintenance personnel in real estate properties or the public sector can empty waste bins according to an actual fill level indicated by a sensor. In hospitals, a sensor can predict the emptying of oxygen bottles, for example. In a national park, employees can avoid driving long distances when hikers can notify them of the need for firewood by pressing a button installed in huts. In the real estate sector, energy costs can be optimised by monitoring temperatures with sensors room-specifically and by adjusting the temperature automatically.
Digita is a stable domestic operator that offers a complete infrastructure for the Internet of Things, i.e., IoT, as a service platform for our corporate partners’ solutions. Thanks to Digita’s high masts and the network based on the bi-directional LoRa technology, controlling the various devices connected to the network is cost-efficient, simple and reliable.
The cost efficiency of data transfer is an essential factor when transferring to the world of IoT, also in the long run. Digita’s LPWA (Low Power Wide Area) network that covers the whole of Finland uses LoRa (Long Range) technology, which is the first technology in the world developed specifically for the Internet of Things. Data produced by measuring sensors that use a minimal amount of energy can be transferred long distances wirelessly.
LPWA solutions are affordable and durable: For example, the installation of sensors does not require cabling, and the sensors are light and simple to install. The battery of a sensor can last up to 10 years, so the solutions are in practice maintenance-free.
The development of IoT services without complicated local network or gateway solutions in buildings is important to many of our customers. Digita’s advanced network will particularly benefit customers’ energy efficiency, smart city and smart metering projects.
As the largest owner of telecommunications masts in Finland, we ensure that our network is always operational in all circumstances.
The range of the digital applications of IoT is almost unlimited – and
already achievable. IoT offers great business opportunities for Digita and
other Finnish companies in the coming years.
Digita estimates that, by 2023, almost 20 million IoT sensors will have been installed across Finland, monitoring and easing our everyday lives.
